BREAKING: Underdog Senate candidate misreads outpouring of support, sets fundraising goal too low!We asked for your help - and you responded. We asked for $30,000 in online contributions in the last week of the quarterly reporting period and you gave it to us - with room to spare!
All in all, there were over 190 online contributions last week, totaling more than $35,000...
And yes, if you're wondering, we outdid our opponent in the Democratic primary in online fundraising this week. The insiders' candidate sent out the same kind of last-week appeal that we did - to an email list that seems to include everybody in the state - and you smoked 'em. Oh, we're sure he got lots of big checks this quarter; that's what insider candidates do. But in online last-week enthusiasm, you rocked him hard. [my emph]

| Steve ends with a now-characteristic semi-obscure movie reference, allowing everyone a celebratory Royale with Cheese, washed down not with a Sprite but a $5 Shake.
But really, the still-tiny Novick campaign staff should share in this feast. Let's be honest, here--this isn't going to shape up to be Steve's best quarter, and in fact it will probably be his worst. Not only is summer a terrible time to raise money (especially the year before the election), by getting into the race in April most of his low-hanging "friends and family" money had already been earned. And if you hadn't noticed, there's another candidate out there, who is using high-profile institutions and folks to not-so-subtly point donors towards him. A difficult fundraising environment at best, overall.
But when it came down to brass tacks--when everybody and their sister was pushing the "beg" button on their email blasters every day, tapping donors and then tapping them again--Oregonians who want a strong progressive fighter in the Senate came through. Nearly 1,000 people have put their online money where their vote is for a reason: they want change. They're tired of being disappointed by Democrats. They don't necessarily want more Democrats; they want better Democrats. And maybe they don't want folks like Chuck Schumer and Jon Tester, bless 'em, trying to create a coronation before Oregonians get a chance to take measure of the candidates.
If you contributed through LO (and some of you did), thank you for the support, and for showing Steve where his money's coming from--on the ground, in the field. The work's not nearly done, but the word is out: When Steve Novick calls for help, the crickets aren't chirping--they're writing checks.
