UPDATED: DSCC Poll: Merkley within single digits of Gutless Gordon Smith

by: carla

Thu Jul 19, 2007 at 12:30:41 PM PDT

(Scootching this up to the top because of the update. - promoted by carla)

Update: I've been talking to my sources today and they're telling me that Merkley is within SIX POINTS of Smith.

The people whose job it is to get Gordon Smith reelected must be chewing their nails to the quick.

Over at MyDD, Jonathan Singer has the bad news for Gutless Gordon:

According to this Democratic polling, Smith is well below 50 percent in a head-to-head matchup against potential Democratic challenger Jeff Merkley, who currently serves as Speaker of the State House (the first Democratic Speaker in the state in nearly two decades). Perhaps more importantly, the poll shows that Smith's lead over Merkley is only in the single digits -- meaning that Merkley is already well within striking range of Smith.

An undeclared candidate with marginal statewide name recognition is at single digits against an incumbent? Not to mention an incumbent trying to go out of his way to waffle around on the issue on the minds of most Americans: Iraq.

Things aren't looking so good for the Gutless One.

Novick Also Starts Race in Excellent Position (0.00 / 0)
Cross posting what I added to the discussion over at MYDD:

Hi Folks,

Steve Novick's campaign manager here. I encourage people to visit the website to get a better idea of Steve' progressive credentials on the War, health care, the environment and social inequality.

Although I am not ready to release our own numbers right now, I will say that they confirm the DSCC's data on Smith's vulnerability. But I will also add that they show Steve is in just as good, if not better, position to challenge Smith than Merkley.

Gordooon (0.00 / 0)
Well, can this be a surprise to anyone who is paying attention?  One thing to look at just to get an idea of how freaked out the R's are about protecting "Gordon" go over and look at the attack letter that is posted on the Oregon Republican's web site.

http://www.orgop.org...

Now that "Earl" and "Peter" have passed due to the ever important work of the people back in DC (spelled pussies) maybe Mr. Merkley will get this job done.

I have nothing but respect for Novick.  At least he has the guts to make the good fight.  I am sad to say that for whatever reason I do not think he is going to get the job done.  For one I think he is a bit too "left" for the state. No one can fault his drive and the powers of what he believes.  But what we need is someone who can attract the moderate R's and independents who make up Gordooons base.

This has to be one of the most important things that we as Oregonians can do this election cycle.  We collectively have to do whatever we can to defeat this twit Smith. It seems that our demo "leadership" just has other things to do.

Smith is truly one of those people who wants to be in politics to "be someone" as opposed to "do something."  He has flipped like a fish on the deck of boat going across the Columbia Bar.

Run Merkely Run!
